About the Cabin

This modern cabin is located on a lovely, 50-acre property in Bluemont, VA. It was built in 1968 by Janet and Melvin Kohn, a Washington couple who fell in love with the area. After Janet passed away in 2004, Melvin placed the property under conservation easement in 2007 and donated the property to Clarke County in 2014. Named in honor of the late Janet Kohn, the County now leases the cabin and property to PATC for use as a rental cabin. A short driveway allows guests to drive to the cabin. There, you will find a comfortable, combined kitchen, living and dining area with a stone fireplace. Off the full kitchen, one can find bathroom complete with a toilet, sink, and shower. Two bedrooms—one with a double bed and another with two double-deck bunks—make this a perfect cabin for families with children. Enjoy a view of an open meadow and pond (no swimming) from the front porch. Hikers can take a short drive to Bears Den Center and Lodge to access the AT and Bears Den Rocks Overlook. The Morgans Mill Rd AT access is also just 0.8 miles from the cabin.

The interior of the Janet Kohn shelter shows a wooden table and chairs.
