This semi-primitive trail center is located just off of the South District of SNP. Named for a PATC founder and former Supervisor of Trails, this facility offers views of Rocky Mount and the Massanutten Mountains to the west and Bush Mountain to the east. As a semi-primitive trail center, Schairer provides a gas stove, running water in the kitchen from May through October, and an outdoor spigot for water access in colder weather. The large kitchen and living area provides ample seating and a large wood stove. Two bedrooms include 9 bunks with 3 extra mattresses to sleep 12. Access the center by a 0.4 mile hike-in from parking, or a 5 mile hike-in in the case that Skyline Drive is closed. Hikers can explore several trails accessible from Skyline Drive.
Note: Fireplace out of service. Plan to use the wood stove for heat.
