FALL TRAILFEST
Nov 8-11, 2024
Be part of a new PATC annual tradition by joining other outdoor enthusiasts for the 2024 Fall TrailFest this November. The event will be held at the Caroline Furnace Camp and Retreat Center in the beautiful Massanutten Mountains surrounded by George Washington National Forest. TrailFest will take place from November 8-11th. There will be activities for the whole family throughout the weekend. Come for a day or stay for the entire weekend; you'll be able to curate your own fun filled itinerary upon registration.
-“The idea is to get individuals, couples, and families outdoors and to get more involved in PATC,” said Jayne Mayne, chair of the event and Supervisor of Membership, PATC Executive Committee. “We really have a wonderful range of things to offer.”
Activity options are varied and aplenty with nearly 70 events being offered. Hikes on both Saturday and Sunday range from short and easy to 8-plus miles. Other activities include kids’ scavenger hikes, a challenge course, and historic tours of Caroline Furnace and their beautiful land.
Opportunities to expand your knowledge of trail maintenance and tools, as well as programs on navigation, GPS basics, and trail mapping will be offered. A 2-hour hike leader education course will cover planning, organizing, and leading fun and responsible hikes. Information on trail first aid will also be provided.
Hands-on activities will include archery instruction, using a two-handed saw, and how to build a campfire. Presentations during the weekend include two very adventurous women sharing their stories on the Appalachian and American Discovery trails. Or perhaps you’d like to see some of our primitive and modern PATC cabins over lunch.
In the words of PATC President Jim Fetig, “PATC connects people to the outdoors in a wide variety of ways. We are hoping to create an enjoyable event with aspects where club members can come together as a community, meet one another, and enjoy new experiences. It's an opportunity to learn new things, make new friends, and experience the depth and breadth of this amazing organization.”
Registration is now open for members. Early Bird Registration for any portion of the weekend is $30 per person. Registered children under 18 are ½ price with a registered adult. September 20, the registration fee increases to $40, then $50 on October 4 until registration closes on October 17.
Camping sites for your tent, car camping, or camper (no hookups) rent for $30 for one, two or all three nights. There are also primitive (think kid camps) open, screened cabins with 4 bunks. Beds are $30. There are two bathhouses for women and two for men. Several towns are located 10 to 20 miles from the camp for those wanting to stay elsewhere.
Meals should be purchased in advance, and dietary options are available (breakfast $10, lunch $11, dinner $16).
