Section 20: Massanutten West
Maurertown, VA to Elizabeth Furnace, 13.5 miles.
TRAIL CLOSURE ALERT!! This is the Doll Ridge section from Three Top Mountain to Riverview Drive. To detour this section, please follow the following directions. This detour adds about 7 miles to the trail. We are working on a shorter reroute.
Southbound: In the North Shenandoah Valley when on Swartz Road, do not turn left onto Harrisville. Instead, go straight (south) on Swartz for 5 miles to Woodstock, VA. (The last 0.3 miles are Lee Rd in Woodstock city limits). Turn left (east) on North Road and proceed 0.3 miles to US Hwy 11. Turn left (north) on US Hwy 11 and proceed 0.3 miles to Mill Rd. Turn right (east) on Mill Rd and proceed 1.5 miles to Woodstock Tower Road. Turn left (east) and proceed 2.5 miles to the Massanutten Trail (blazed orange) at the ridgeline. Go north 5 miles on the Massanutten Trail to rejoin the Tuscarora at the Massanutten split.
Northbound: On Three Top Mountain, do not turn right onto the Tuscarora. Instead, go straight (south) on the Massanutten Trail (blazed orange) for 4.5 miles to the Woodstock Tower Rd crossing. Turn right (west) on Woodstock Tower Road and proceed 2.5 miles to Mill Road. Turn right (west) on Mill Road and proceed 1.5 miles to US Hwy 11. Turn left (south) on US Hwy 11 and proceed 0.3 miles to North Street. Turn right (north) on Lee St, which becomes Swartz Rd. in 0.3 miles. Proceed north on Swartz for 4.7 miles to rejoin the Tuscarora at Harrisville Rd.

Section 21: Massanutten East
Elizabeth Furnace to U.S. Route 340, 15 miles

Access: Trail can be accessed from both the southern and northern termini of section 21:
Elizabeth Furnace (38.928, -78.330)
Bentonville, VA: Very limited shoulder parking in vicinity of US Route 340 and VA Route 628-Rocky Hollow Road (38.820,-78.336).
Additional road access:
VA Route 613-Indian Hollow Road at Bentonville Landing (38.841,-78.330)
Additional trail connections in the George Washington National Forest include: Sherman Gap Trail, Buzzard Rock Trail, Veach Gap Trail, Massanutten Trail.
Advisory: Exercise caution in the George Washington National Forest during hunting season. Section Update

Section 22: Mathews Arm
U.S. Route 340 to Appalachian Trail, 7.6 miles.

Max Elevation: 3440 ft. Min Elevation: 660 ft
Highlights: Overall Run Falls, Overall Run gorge overlook.
Access: Trail can be accessed from the southern terminus of section 22:
Bentonville, VA: Very limited shoulder parking in vicinity of US Route 340 and VA Route 628-Rocky Hollow Road (38.820,-78.336).
No direct access to northern terminus, but can be approached from:
Skyline Drive MP 21.1 (38.761,-78.282), 0.4 mi SB on AT to junction with southern terminus of the Tuscarora Trail.
Additional trail connections in Shenandoah National Park include: Thompson Hollow Trail, Overall Run Trail, Mathews Arm Trail.
Advisory: Skyline Drive may be closed during winter, check with the Park Service for current conditions.
Camping: Mathews Arm (SNP)
